This semester, the MYP Design, Arts, and Language and Literature courses collaborated to develop an interdisciplinary learning unit titled \u201cREVIVE: Giving New Life to Old Clothing.\u201d<\/strong> Through upcycling used garments, students explored the importance of sustainability and resource reuse by integrating design thinking, artistic creation, photography, and reflective expression.<\/p>

Throughout the project, students first investigated the environmental impact of fast fashion and examined how creative design can extend the lifecycle of clothing. Each student then selected an old garment and transformed it using techniques such as deconstruction, reconstruction, dyeing, sewing, and embellishment, creating renewed functionality and meaning through their designs.<\/p>

After completing their redesigned garments, students wore their creations and searched around the campus for locations that best represented the concept of \u201cRevive.\u201d<\/strong> From sunlit lawns and story-filled architectural corners to learning spaces symbolizing hope and future possibilities, each photograph reflected students\u2019 unique interpretations of renewal and transformation. Students also composed artist statements and written reflections, learning to communicate ideas effectively through both visual and written forms.<\/p>

How Are Students Assessed?<\/strong><\/p>

Within the IB MYP framework, assessment emphasizes students\u2019 learning processes and capability development. Teachers do not evaluate solely based on whether a product appears aesthetically pleasing or whether photographs look professional. Instead, assessment is conducted according to the official IB assessment criteria.<\/p>
